News & Insights: October 2026
This week we highlight the top news across maritime fuels, sustainable aviation fuel and biodiesel.
We also feature an article by Managing Consultant Andrea Munoz-Garcia taking a look at the developments and challenges in the Irish biomethane sector and share information about our internal feedstocks database which underpins much of our work here at Alder BioInsights.

Developing a Biomethane Project in Ireland; Key Challenges
Alder BioInsights attended The Irish Bioenergy Association (IrBEA) 25th National Bioenergy conference on biomethane and biofuel, which took place recently at the Killashee Hotel, Naas, Co Kildare.
The Irish AD and biomethane sector is at a pivotal moment right now, transitioning from ambition to actual delivery, with the first biomethane plant(s) recently being directly connected to the Irish gas network.
In this article, Managing Consultant Andrea Munoz-Garcia takes a look at the key challenges in developing a biomethane project in Ireland.
Understanding Feedstock Availability. Securing Sustainable Supply.
Senior Consultant Dr Gail Shuttleworth highlights our Feedstocks Database – an established internal tool which provides a structured starting point for assessing UK feedstock resources, at county, regional and national level.
Ensuring a secure, sustainable biomass supply starts with understanding what is available, where it can be sourced and how supply could change over time. Headline figures for agricultural production, forestry, food processing or waste arisings rarely tell the whole story.
The key question is whether there is enough of the right feedstock, in the right place, at the right quality and price, to support a viable process in the near, medium and longer term.
The database underpins and evidences expert Alder analysis to go beyond identifying key feedstocks to determining what is realistically available and what can actually be secured, also considering competing demands.

Yorkshire Marathon Relay 2026
On October 18th, six members of the Alder team completed the Yorkshire Marathon Relay raising £1653 for our chosen charity!
The team were raising money for Blood Cancer UK in memory of long standing client, colleague and friend Matthew Flint who very sadly passed away following a diagnosis late last year. We know many in the world of AD and biomethane will have worked with or spent time with Matt over the past 15 years, as we did, so this was a great opportunity to show our support to his family, friends and colleagues.
Blood Cancer UK fund scientific and clinical research, provide support and information to people affected by blood cancer and work to improve diagnosis and treatment.
