Feedstock

News & Insights – Feedstocks, September 2026

Our news style news review is here and we’re starting off with a look at developments in the feedstocks sector.

In the Philippines, the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Energy (DOE) are seeking cheaper feedstocks, including corn and molasses, to support expanded bioethanol production. In Egypt, Proger and Drexel are progressing a $278m project to convert sugarcane bagasse into bioethanol, with potential exports to European markets.

In the Netherlands, Perpetual Next and PreZero have partnered to secure waste wood for conversion into biomethanol and biomethane, demonstrating growing competition for waste-based feedstocks. Meanwhile, the UK Government’s decision to delay expansion of the UK Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) to Energy-from-Waste and waste incineration provides the sector with additional time to prepare for potential carbon costs and their impact on waste feedstock markets.

Featured Case Study

Our featured case study this week is Biomass Connect: Strategic Biomass Feedstock Assessment.

This project was undertaken by Senior Consultant Gail Shuttleworth and Consultant Lorenza Carta with an objective of supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy by identifying viable biomass feedstocks, analysing their market potential, and outlining value chain development opportunities as part of the Biomass Feedstocks Innovation Programme. We conducted a comprehensive assessment of UK biomass feedstocks using expert stakeholder input, literature review, and market analysis.
