Green Gas Taskforce – Greening the UK’s Gas Grid

An SGN Green Gas Taskforce roundtable session “Greening the UK’s Gas Grid” was held at the Labour Party Conference on Monday 29th September 2025 . The Taskforce and their partners shared a report produced by Alder BioInsights with Labour MPs and other stakeholders.
The report outlined the reality that feedstock is not a limiting factor on the growth of the sector, and there are a wide range of agricultural products and wastes that can be used to generate low carbon green gas in the UK.
The report was co-authored by Lucy Hopwood, Director and Lorenza Carta, Consultant. Lucy commented:
“For years, feedstock availability has been seen as a key barrier to growth in biomethane, but our findings highlight the scale of what is possible under the right regulatory and political framework. Alongside its critical role in the energy transition, biomethane can boost resilience, efficiency, and profitability in agriculture at a time such action is so desperately needed. Alder is proud to have led this important and impactful piece of work. As strategic business consultants with expertise in feedstock, sustainability, policy and markets, this is exactly the kind of insight we deliver.”
