Foreword brief
The latest Bioenergy Newsletter highlights recent expansions in the global biomethane industry, focusing on new production facilities and the infrastructure needed to support them. In the UK, VIDA Bioenergy is building a second facility that will process over 45,000 tonnes of local crops and residues annually, increasing its regional production capacity. Meanwhile, British Fortis Energy has expanded its operations by acquiring a fifth biogas power plant in Türkiye, bringing its total installed capacity to over 21 MWe. In France, which leads Europe with 732 biomethane plants, a new facility is being built to produce biogas from slaughterhouse waste for a major beef producer. These developments are supported by critical infrastructure projects, such as a €264 million agreement in Italy to build new pipelines to integrate biomethane into the national gas grid and the opening of new public biomethane refueling points in Latvia.
